Trek Butterfly Madone

Damien Hirst, a British artist, designed this one-of-a-kind bicycle in collaboration with Trek Bicycle Corporation. It features real butterfly wings lacquered onto the frame and wheels, which creates a shimmering effect symbolizing a positive transition. Armstrong famously rode it during the 2009 Tour de France final stage on the Champs-Élysées, bringing global attention. It later sold for an astonishing $500,000, making it one of the most expensive bicycles ever. It also proceeds with supporting various cancer research and awareness initiatives.

24K Gold Extreme Mountain Bicycle

A 24K Gold Extreme Mountain Bicycle is a remarkable fusion of lavishness and craftsmanship. The House of Solid Gold designed this exclusive fat bicycle, handcrafting and overlaying it with 24-karat gold, initially pricing it at an astounding $1 million. The USA conducts the entire electroplating process, covering every component, from the frame to the smallest details. It requires over 750 hours in total to complete one bicycle. Adding to its greatness, it features a custom emblem adorned with more than 600 black diamonds and 500 golden sapphires. The bicycle’s saddle is padded with premium chocolate brown alligator leather, and even the water bottle is coated with gold and accented with chocolate brown stingray skin.

Beyond its lavish aesthetics, the bicycle features a Salsa Mukluk XL 21″ aluminum frame. It equips high-quality components such as a Salsa Fargo fork and Surly Rolling Darryl rims fitted with Surly Endomorph 3.7″ front and Larry 3.8″ rear tires. While fully functional, this bicycle serves more as a collector’s piece, epitomizing the intersection of art, luxury, and cycling.

Trek Yoshitomo Nara Speed Concept

It is a unique bicycle that combines high-performance engineering with contemporary art. It is another bicycle specifically designed for cyclist Lance Armstrong during his 2009 comeback; this bicycle features the creative touch of renowned Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara. Nara’s artwork governs the bicycle’s frame and wheels, showcasing his signature cartoon-like characters and playful patterns. The other vibrant illustrations, which are set against a bright blue and yellow color scheme, make this bicycle a standout piece.

This bicycle is built on Trek’s advanced Speed Concept platform, known for its aerodynamic design, ensuring top-tier performance. In November 2009, Sotheby’s auctioned the Trek Yoshitomo Nara Speed Concept fetching an impressive $200,000. It represents how creative expression can rise above traditional boundaries, resulting in a masterpiece that remains with us and continues to inspire.

Kaws Trek Madone

Another one of the bicycles supports cyclist Lance Armstrong’s return to professional racing. It was a collaboration between renowned street artist KAWS (Brian Donnelly) and Trek Bicycle Corporation, called The Kaws Trek Madone, created in 2009. This distinctive bicycle features KAWS’s signature “chomper” teeth motif beautifying the frame and wheel rims, blending contemporary art with top cycling technology.

Built upon Trek’s advanced Madone platform, the bicycle boasts a lightweight carbon fiber frame designed for optimal aerodynamics and speed. In November 2009, Sotheby’s auctioned it at the “It’s About the Bike” event, where it fetched $160,000. Its proceeds benefited the LIVESTRONG Foundation to support cancer research and awareness.

Aurumania Crystal Edition Gold Bike

Aurumania Gold Bike Crystal Edition is a testament to luxury and craftsmanship in the cycling world. A bicycle entirely plated with 24-carat gold, extending from the frame to the spokes, exuding opulence at every angle. This bicycle is adorned with over 600 hand-set Swarovski crystals, including the name Aurumania spelled out in Braille along the crossbar, enhancing its looks. It includes a hand-sewn, chocolate-brown leather handlebar grip and a molded Brooks leather saddle, providing extreme comfort and elegance. It was priced at approximately $114,000, and only 10 units of this bicycle were ever produced. The first bicycle was sold to a London-based client. He chose to display it as a decorative piece, highlighting it as a work of art.
