But the main question for every parent is what is the right age to skate for their kids? Whether it’s skating, rollerblading, or skateboarding, the minimum age should be considered for safety purposes. The right answer depends on your kids’ development, the type of skate, and the right equipment—mainly safety gear.

Right Age: 2-3 years
At this age, toddlers are generally mastering walking, so skating is out of the question at this point, but it’s a great time to build their foundational balance.
Helmets should have extra cushioning and a snug fit. Size typically varies between 18 and 20 inches (46-51 cm).
Right Age: 4-5 years
Many kids are ready to start skating with help, 4-5 years is the right age to skate. Balance and coordination improve significantly during this stage.
Choose a CPSC-certified multi-sport helmet that fits 19–21 inches (48–53 cm) in circumference. The helmet should not wobble and should sit low on the forehead.

Kids can usually balance on their own and start learning how to stop, turn, and fall safely.

Size typically ranges from 20 to 22 inches (51 to 56 cm). At this age, comfort and fit are critical. Replace the helmet if your child outgrows it or it’s been in a fall.

Older kids often want to learn more complex moves, and tricks, or even compete. Safety and technique become more important.
Kids this age may transition to adult small helmets if needed (usually 22–24 inches or 56–61 cm). Ensure it still fits snugly and is in great condition.
There is no one right age to skate, Kids can start skating from a very young age, remember every child is different; their way of learning is different. Therefore, with the right guidance, age-appropriate equipment, and a right-fitted helmet, skating can be made joyful, adventurous, and safe for kids of every age.
We recommend a minimum age of 3 for skating, although we advise parents to use their discretion on whether very young children will enjoy the experience. No child under the age of 2 will be allowed to skate. All children aged 7 and under must be accompanied onto the ice by a responsible adult (aged 18+) in skates.
